For more information, visitwww.Telesat.Com.Purpose of the RoleWe have a requirement for a Project Manager, User Terminal Development, LEO in Ottawa to join the existing engineering team responsible for the end-to-end system design and development of a new LEO constellation and associated communications network.

In this role, the incumbent will work closely with the Telesat LEO systems engineering team and will collaborate with outside technology vendors providing user terminal solutions for Telesat.

This position will report to the UT Program Manager.User terminals that will provide services over the Telesat LEO Constellation are an essential part of the system design.

User terminals are being developed for each of the market segments being considered by Telesat.

These markets include but are not limited to terminals for the mobility market – maritime, aeronautical and terrestrial – for the enterprise markets – institutional, mobile backhaul, 5G – and for government markets.This position requires a strong leader with proven experience in the development of satellite user terminal technologies and manufacture, delivery and installation of satellite user terminal products.

The UT Project Manager will serve as a focal point which requires a team player comfortable working in a multi-functional organization with engineering, program management, business development and sales.

This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the development of the Telesat LEO Program and requires a self-directed highly creative individual comfortable working in a fast-paced start-up like environment.The responsibilities and range of activities will vary, but in general will include:ResponsibilitiesManage the development of cost-effective user terminal projects suitable for the Telesat LEO constellation system in collaboration with the program managers, systems engineers and technology suppliers and manufacturers.Responsible for the planning and execution of multiple vendor projects by managing the scope (statement-of-work, work-breakdown-structure), requirements, schedule, milestones, risks, opportunities and budgetWork closely with the product, program, engineering and commercial teams to understand the user terminal requirements and ensure vendors delivery of compliant solutions, on time and on budgetWork with Telesat engineering, legal and contracts teams to support preparation of partnership, development and supply agreements with selected vendors.Prepare and execute program initiatives for Telesat user terminal in close coordination with the Telesat LEO team.Act as the primary point of contact for all communications, meetings and correspondences with the Vendor.Contribute to the design of the Telesat LEO constellation to ensure alignment of user terminal features, performance and interoperability with the end-to-end system.Develop required documentation for proper management and execution of user terminal projects in collaboration with technical experts in the engineering team.Assess vendor development progress are prepare program inputs in support of presentations to brief LEO leadership on highlights, challenges and go forward plans.Work with suppliers to develop design to cost initiatives to meet targets unit production cost for user terminalsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLSBachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent industry experience with a minimum of 5 years of project management experience in satellite communication industry, preferably with an emphasis on user terminal technologies.Significant experience managing multiple concurrent and interdependent projectsStrong working knowledge of project management tools including Microsoft Project or similar scheduling tools (ie.

Primavera Cloud, Primavera P6)General knowledge of modem, RF, electronics and antenna technologiesExperience in managing vendor development programs for high volume productionCreative problem-solver with thorough attention to detail.Highly collaborative team-player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners / suppliers.Experience in dealing with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation.Ability to prioritize opportunities, needs and resources.An aptitude for and interest in complex technology.PMP Certification is an assetOTHER REQUIREMENTSEligibility to work in Canada.Ability to obtain Controlled Goods Program (CGP) Clearance.International travel is anticipated; therefore, candidates will need to maintain an up-to-date passport and remain legally able to travel internationally.
