Segment President

Montrose Environmental Group

This is a Contract position in Ottawa, ON posted January 30, 2023.

The Segment President at Montrose Environmental Group (MEG) will lead the operations, technical and key account management teams, partner closely with our MEG Sales Team, and work cross-functionally with other departments in the organization.

The Consulting, Engineering, and Advisory business-line has over 500 employees across the U.S.

primarily built through acquisitions, and will continue to be actively grown both organically and through acquisitions.

This key leadership role will be closely engaged with the MEG executive team to scale the environmental engineering and consulting businesses as one fully-integrated organization.

Key focus areas for this role will be to align our 10 subsidiaries with one vision and strategy, identify, prioritize and capture market opportunities, attract, retain and develop talent, facilitate cross selling across the MEG portfolio, and improve overall operations.

Our businesses and services are diverse, from turnkey remediation services to highly specialized permitting and compliance services.

This role will be asked to deliver a best-in-industry consulting, engineering, and advisory practice at MEG that is client-centric across our geographies through cross-collaboration and pollination of services and talent.

The successful C-Suite Successor will have an extensive environmental consulting or engineering background, be a strategic thinker with deep experience directing operations (e.g., teams, systems, projects), have integrated new acquisitions and existing businesses, have implemented growth strategies, and successfully developed a high-functioning leadership team.

Outstanding ability to motivate, engage, and drive collaboration are necessities.

A desire to lead by example, to coach by “doing”, and a willingness to “do what it takes” and dive into details personally will be critical to the success of this role.

Near-term deliverables for this role include: complete an organizational analysis to recommend potential changes to structure, process, and priorities; review and recommend updates to the MEG Key Client Management program; understand our target markets and ensure alignment with our M&A team; and engage with business leadership to develop a proactive mindset.

This position will interface regularly with the CEO and BoD, while reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

Our successful candidate will need to travel regularly to meet with teams, acquisition targets and, of course, clients.

A DAY IN THE LIFE Develop a vision that promotes the overall success of the MEG Consulting, Engineering, and Advisory business through the collaboration of technical leaders and our individual acquired companies Partner closely with our VP, Human Resources to design and implement an organizational strategy and structure, communication strategy, and people development program to allow us to scale and grow as One Montrose Conduct Talent Reviews and building the subsequent development and succession plans Execute a strategic plan consistent with MEG’s strategy, and establish/meet division metrics in partnership with the COO, CFO and CCO Position MEG as the technical leader in the industry by leading our technical team through technical thought leadership, a focus on technical quality, and innovation Engage with, communicate regularly with and develop talent across the engineering and consulting business Partner closely with our MEG Sales Team to accelerate organic growth through a strong client portfolio and strategic client selection, including segmentation by market Deliver operational excellence through consistent project delivery and quality and strong resource management practices Partner with cross-divisional senior operational leadership to support the development of integrated offerings to the market Lead the operational and cultural integration of new acquisitions to ensure a seamless entry into Montrose Foster a high-performance culture through highly visible leadership that embraces continuous improvement, is client focused, conducts business in the highest ethical manner and promotes inclusive behavior designed to enable each member of the team the ability to achieve personal and professional satisfaction Oversee safety, health, and environmental issues involving the operations to ensure the safety of team members and to remain in compliance with state and federal regulations NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geology or related 20 years of experience in high end environmental engineering or consulting, preferably in a high-growth environment where systems and processes had to be established and integration of multi-faceted and geographically dispersed teams was needed Demonstrated leadership, employee development, organizational advancement and successorship accomplishments Experience and proven accomplishments leading a larger, growing organizations ($100M in revenue and double-digit revenue growth) across multiple geographies with a quantifiable record of business and leadership achievements Demonstrated ability to thrive in a high growth and matrixed organization, working collaboratively with all functional support areas i.e.

HR, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Safety, Legal etc.

Strong continuous improvement skillset and ability to identify needs, develop a strategy for improvement, and communicate and execute throughout a large organization Outstanding communicator with strong ability to communicate up and down throughout the organization to share a consistent vision and purpose, and drive alignment Demonstrated ability to motivate others to achieve established business and sales objectives, and to create a culture of achievement and professionalism Passion for engaging, energizing, and driving collaboration across a broad, dispersed team with capability of getting results through others Strong people developer with focus on building talent and succession planning in the organization Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite Ability/willingness to travel as required to drive business growth with strong desire to connect in-person with our teams around the US Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree Experience integrating new acquisitions into existing organizations Passion for solving environmental challenges and an understanding of the value of integrated environmental solutions MAKE THE MOVE At Montrose Environmental Group, our business is the environment, and our mission is to help protect the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the soil that feeds us.
