Job Description CPP Investments is seeking a Managing Director, Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to provide strategic HR leadership and advisory to two of the fund’s critical business functions: Technology & Data and Legal.

Technology and data is central to CPP Investments’ strategy to use advanced technology and data to improve analytics and insights, enhance productivity of our investment and corporate teams and support CPP Investments’ ability to transact across a wide set of products and geographies.

The Legal function provides world-class advisory across our investment and corporate activities, oversees compliance across the fund, and manages all engagement with CPP Investments’ board of directors.

As the lead advisor and execution partner on all matters involving people and culture, you will help the leaders in these two functions areas deliver on their business strategies and objectives through talent.

You will report to the Global Leadership Team
– Managing Director, Head of HR Business Partners and Employee Relations, located in Toronto with accountability to the two C-Suite executives heading each of Technology & Data and Legal.

You will directly manage an HRBP, Senior Advisor, and collaborate within the broader HR Business Partner team as well as the other talent and corporate centers of excellence to deliver on your mandate.

As the ideal candidate, you are recognized for your strong judgement that spans complex HR issues through to strategic insight on talent management.

You bring an innovative yet practical approach to HR.

You have an excellent track record of human resources management, developed in a knowledge-based industry and in complex, fast-paced environments.

You understand how technology and data bring competitive advantage to people-based businesses, and how to build cultural change required for data-enabled business transformation.

You understand and/or are eager to learn how legal advisory and compliance functions bring value to an investment firm.

You enjoy driving initiatives and change throughout an organization, and you are a highly effective communicator who builds relationships with senior partners and stakeholders.

You are a thought partner within your own department and in the broader organization.

You will be accountable for: Helping your business leaders drive the people agenda for their areas, partnering with them to proactively identify and prioritize the most critical talent issues and opportunities for action.

Ensuring execution of talent priorities in partnership with the businesses you support, Talent Department centres of excellence, and other areas across CPP Investments’ corporate functions.

Advising Senior Managing Directors (C-Suite) and Managing Directors (the Global Leadership Team) to help them lead high-performance teams and to develop and execute succession plans.

Supporting leaders with organizational planning and changes, ensuring new structures support the strategic direction of the business, that communications are effective, and talent is deployed effectively.

Working with the HRBP Senior Advisor to directly deliver core HR services including performance and case management; cyclical talent processes such as performance reviews, promotions, high potential pipelines and succession planning.

Leading and contributing to HRBP team, Talent Department and enterprise initiatives.

Deeply understanding the business of your client groups to provide world-class talent advisory and execution.

Qualifications 15 years of experience in human resources, with significant experience in a HRBP role, ideally in an investment management organization, a technology function within a people-centered business or both Understanding of how world-class technology and data functions are delivered and how to unlock their value in organizations Excellent advisory skills and ability to influence senior audiences Track record of leading initiatives and executing in complex situations A collaborative approach and an ability to partner with business leaders Strong problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage at both the tactical and strategic levels in a complex, global environment We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package for this full-time permanent position.
