Reporting to the Vice President, Strategy and Engagement, your primary responsibility is the development and oversight of strategic communications, and protecting and enhancing BC Ferries’ reputation.

You are an authentic leader who excels at building connections internally and externally; in particular, you will play a key role in establishing and nurturing government and community relationships.

As the Executive Director, you will contribute to the achievement of the company’s business objectives in the areas of engaging stakeholders; building awareness, explaining, influencing, and advancing the company’s policies and interests; and positioning and managing communications needs.

As an individual, you naturally embody and model high emotional intelligence to facilitate respectful, collaborative, interpersonal relationships and influence positive outcomes.

You possess expertise in governance leadership and program management and thrive in a role where your direct responsibilities are varied and strategically critical.

These include: Planning, developing and implementing multi-media strategic communications plans, external outreach strategies and brand initiatives linked to the company’s vision, purpose, and values.

Providing organizational leadership on communications, government relations, engagement, and community investment initiatives that drive change and deliver impact.

Overseeing the development of impactful documents and presentations for use by executives.

Creating and curating content for a range of communications platforms and channels – social media, intranet and website.

Developing and implementing systems and processes to ensure proactive communications.

Directing and overseeing the alignment of communications and engagement functions, consistent with BC Ferries’ brand, vision, mission, values, and corporate objectives.

Advising senior management on strategic issues and priorities, along with methods to enhance the responsiveness and effectiveness of BC Ferries’ communications and engagement activities.

Leading the development of a wide variety of communication products, including complex, confidential, and sensitive materials.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: 20 years’ experience in progressively more complex senior management/leadership roles in corporate communications and stakeholder relations.

Graduate or Undergraduate degree or equivalent certificate or diploma in public relations, public participation or applied communications program or related discipline.

Experience as corporate spokesperson, working with senior executives, internal resources and contract suppliers is required.

Experience developing First Nations’ engagement programs considered an asset.
