Job Summary The Director of Programs & Services leads, develops, plans, and evaluates programs, services, events, volunteer programs and Student Groups.

Working with staff and student executives, the position ensures all activities are innovative, relevant, and based on current student interests.

This position is part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), made up of the General Manager and Directors, that sets and upholds the operational direction of SAMU.

The position operates according to the vision, mission and values and the current Strategic Plan for SAMU.

Summary of Responsibilities Leadership: Leads the Programs and Services team in the annual planning and building of the upcoming calendar.

Leads recruiting process for filling department vacancies Leads the annual performance development process with department staff that supports the setting and achieving of goals and demonstrating proficiency with key competencies Participates in evaluating current operational directives and provides advice on the development of new policies/procedures/directives for better efficiency in operations Participates and contributes expertise to the Senior Leadership Team Experience with HR and performance management principles Operations: Engages all staff and stakeholders in the development and implementation of programs, services, events, volunteer, and Student Group activities Conducts risk assessments on all student-focused activities, ensuring including necessary permits, licenses, and control mechanisms Identifies and reports on metrics that reflect the effectiveness of each program, service, event, volunteer, and Student Group Activity Develops and oversees each department’s budgets with their respective manager.

Completes monthly and quarterly reviews about their current budget status Identifies benchmarking data that applies to raising the standards on student-focused activities Follows direction of Strategic and Corporate Plan throughout all departments Contributes and/or lead organizational-wide administrative initiatives or projects Other duties as assigned Education and Experience College or university degree in a relevant area or equivalent education and experience 5 years of progressive supervisory experience; program and event management and evaluation 5 years experience of conducting risk assessments and evaluations Significant experience leading and developing staff, both full-time and part-time Position-Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal) Significant experience supporting student-focused activities Event and Volunteer management experience Experience with budget development and management Strategic Planning and Implementation Experience with Conflict Management, Crisis Management Strong computer skills, knowledge, and ability to use various programs and platforms Experience and enthusiasm working with a diverse range of staff and students Ability to work with a large team and prioritize responsibilities Assets Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle Project and/or Change Management experience Experience working in a post-secondary environment.

First Aid/CPR – Level C (requirement of the position and will provide training if necessary) WHMIS Terms of Employment This full-time, in-person position features total health and dental benefits and a great work environment.

Some weekend and evening work is required; however, work hours are between 8:30 a.m.– 5:00 p.m.

Directors work 37.5 hours per week.
