Bartender (Part-Time)

Sheraton Ottawa Hotel

This is a Contract position in Ottawa region, ON posted May 1, 2018.

Position Purpose:

The position of Bartender ensures excellence in guest service by providing friendly, efficient and accurate beverage service to guests.

Day-to-Day Operations:

  • Greeting & seating guests, taking and filling orders, and satisfying guest requests
  • Answering phone and responding to any guest reservation or inquiry
  • Maintain and promote restaurant and Starwood standards and policies with respect to presentation and service
  • Acquire and utilize knowledge of food and beverage menus to make appropriate recommendations to guests
  • Ensuring responsible service of alcoholic beverages in accordance with Hotel polices
  • Inquiring about guest satisfaction and responding to any concerns appropriately
  • Committed to maintaining and promoting restaurant and Starwood standards and policies with respect to personal image, service and product
  • Utilizing the POS system efficiently, accurately and effectively when placing food and beverage orders or posting payments
  • Ensuring that servers are punching in any beverage order before making the drinks
  • Maintain stock of supplies in and around the bar area including fridges
  • Maintain friendly and productive relationships with other restaurant and Hotel employees.
  • Working closely with all hotel departments to improve service delivery and efficiency
  • Participation in committees, focus groups and meetings, including pre-shift meetings
  • Ensuring the work environment is tidy and well organized at all times
  • Keeping an clean, organized and stocked bar & fridge
  • Daily cleaning of glassware washer
  • Informing Management and servers of any stock issues
  • Ensuring proper pouring controls to minimize waste
  • Adheres to all health and safety guidelines and standards
  • Other tasks or duties as assigned by the Food & Beverage Leadership Team


  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy of guest orders and cleanliness of work area and work tools and equipment
  • Friendly, customer-service attitude
  • Smart serve certified
  • Previous bartending experience
  • Works well with little supervision within a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively with guests and coworkers
  • Strong physical condition as this position requires constant standing, walking, bending and lifting
  • Available to work day and evening shifts any day of the week, including weekends
  • Knowledge of Maitre D an asset
  • Understanding of WHMIS
