The AIM GROUP: Lab Test Engineer


This is a Full-time position in Ottawa, ON posted July 19, 2021.

With over 100 third party sellers, our client’s market reach spans the globe.

They are seeking a Lab Test Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Lab Test Engineer is responsible for laboratory facilities and equipment.

As a member of project teams they will build and modify prototype equipment, develop test plans, contribute to FMEA, and perform performance and evaluation testing.Tasks and Responsibilities
·Generate test plans based on project technical specification as well as FMEA of equipment to be tested.
·Contribute to creating and maintaining FMEA for electro-mechanical equipment (good knowledge of how equipment and components operate and how they can fail).
·Assemble and wire prototypes from wiring diagrams and written and verbal instructions provided by engineering staff.
·Modify prototype parts under direction of engineering staff using in house metal fabrication equipment.
·Install, commission and maintain prototype equipment in labs.
·Maintain written logs indicating performance of prototype equipment.

·Set up and conduct bench tests for components.
·Install sensors and operate data acquisition instrumentation as required for testing.
·Analyze and summarize test results’ raw data to the extent that it is report worthy.
·Generate written lab reports on all tests performed.
·Actively participate in root cause analysis to devise a solution when a test fails.
·Assists in failure analysis & investigations on behalf of engineering by providing technical insight.

Collaborate with engineering and quality to develop sound corrective actions
·Troubleshooting of devices under test when needs be.
·As required participate in customer field service, assisting with troubleshooting of equipment and coordination of repair.

Expected to travel on occasions that warrant onsite presence.
·Ensure Engineering labs have the resources and infrastructure to test and validate humidification equipment.
·Adhere to corporate’s Quality Assurance System and Health and Safety Policies.
·Other duties as assigned by management.Skills and Experience Requirements
·Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related discipline preferably with several years’ experience operating, testing, and repairing electromechanical equipment.

·Excellent written and verbal skills in English; ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and technical standards.Ability to write reports/logs and effectively present information.
·Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
·Good working knowledge of LabVIEW, MS Suite, Word, Excel, Access.
·Hands on and capable of making modifications to test equipment to address fit-up and operational issues.Ability to use handheld tools, drill press, shear, and manual brake press.
