What Will You Do?

We are seeking a Reliability Engineer to join the Lumentum team in Ottawa.

The Reliability Engineer is responsible for the qualification of leading edge optical and photonic telecommunication products to various international and customer standards.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of products that are deployed in virtually every telecommunication system in the world.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Ensure designs meet reliability, qualification, and regulatory, requirements: Interpret and communicate reliability, qualification, and compliance requirements to product design, supplier quality, and manufacturing teams;Define, plan, schedule, and execute reliability and qualification testing;Analyze test data;Calculated reliability statistics (FIT, MTBF, etc.);Identify issues, risks, and areas for improvement.

Apply statistical methods to analyze field reliability of products and make warranty predictions;Investigate issues and drive improvement; Perform component failure analysis at internal and external labs;Define and perform experiments to determine failure rate / risk.

Prepare reports and presentations to communicate results and provide guidance to the technical team.

Requirements Graduation from an undergraduate, Masters or PhD program in electrical engineering, optical engineering, physics, or material science program;Previous work experience in hardware design, product engineering, product qualification, product compliance, failure analysis, and/or reliability engineering capacity;Able to operate effectively in highly technical and multi project environment;Able to scrutinize and interpret literature, reports, and data in order to provide meaningful recommendations;Strong verbal and written communication skills;Comfortable discussing issues with higher management and customers.

Advantageous for the position Knowledge of optics and optical systems;Previous work experience in a job related to optical communications;Knowledge of electrical and optical components, including, ICs, FPGAs, Interconnects, Lasers, Optical Detectors, WSS, MEMs, LCOS, etc.;Knowledge of electrical and optical manufacturing processes;Knowledge of reliability metrics and analysis methods;Familiarity with optical and electrical measurement equipment; Knowledge of IEC, JEDEC, and Telcordia Qualification Standards.
