Legal Counsel

We are seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel to join our team on a full-time basis.

This individual will provide representation, guidance, and advise on the Finch LRT Project, ensuring to support all compliance efforts.

Key Responsibilities Act as a strategic partner to the Project Director, advise on strategic decisions, possible outcomes to issues, and aid on a path forward from a legality prespective.

Lead Mosaic’s Legal team, which includes (but is not limited to): prime contract management, subcontract management, third party claims, injurious affection, and contract negotiations.

Provide expert and strategic legal advice on a broad range of issues to senior leadership.

Provide Executive Committee support which includes reporting, strategic advice, and major claims/issues.

Work closely with Commercial Department and have the ability to make commercial decisions as needed.

Identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks within strategic business decisions.

Manage external counsel and consultants as needed.

Draft agreements that minimize risks and maximize legal rights.

Implement and provide oversight and monitor compliance of policies and procedures.

Prepare template suite of contracts for use by the partnership.

Coordinate with department leaders and management teams.

Required Knowledge and Experience Member in good standing with the Law Society in the jurisdiction of practice Minimum of 5 years experience, preferably post-call legal experience Experience with most or all of: labour law, construction law, litigation management, expropriation, third party claims, subcontract negotiation and management, PPP, and project procurement in the civil and industrial infrastructure spaces preferred.

Experience with conducting or managing disputes from the outset to conclusion, including through mediation, litigation, arbitration, adjudication, etc.

Knowledge of Canadian corporate law and and governance issues.

Construction and/or engineering industry experience, including with respect to contracts and design.

Verbal reasoning skills, ability to interpret the precise meaning of written documents such as contracts, legislation, case decisions.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of construction industry practices, including procurement methodology, risk profile norms, standard form contract provisions.

Ability to draft contracts, submissions, statements, correspondence etc.
