This is a Full-time position in Ottawa, ON posted February 22, 2021.

This position is responsible for ensuring company and Canadian regulatory compliance commitments are met through accurate execution of product and packaged labelling requirements specific to ingredient declaration; nutrition panel, allergen statements, claims and other regulatory elements.This position is responsible for reviewing new ingredient supplier food safety assessments, calculating nutritional information, reviewing production and retail labels, verifying Healthy Menu Labelling compliance, and supporting new product development activities and will provide regulatory guidance and technical support to the company and our customers.The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, and suppliers.

All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.Major Responsibilities:Support the communication, planning and execution of regulatory-based changes that impact the business.Provide guidance on routine regulatory and nutritional issues related to Government or customer inquiries.Act as the regulatory liaison with various agencies.Develop regulatory and nutrition policies for Farm Boy.Propose creative solutions to regulatory challenges involving product labels and claims and utilize internal software for managing ingredients, formulas, packaging and label information.Work with Procurement to verify all ingredient suppliers meet both food safety and regulatory requirements via supplier documentation.Collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders in the commercialization process of in-house developed products (retail and central production) by representing the Food Safety & Regulatory team with crucial inputs grounded in the fundamentals of regulatory guidance for formulation, product labelling, claims and advertising requirements (e.G.

Healthy Menu Labelling, etc..).Assist Product Development as required in sensory/shelf life validations.Generate nutrition and ingredient labels for new and existing finished products – in-house and supplier repackaged.Manage Label Content Management process including preparation of labelling copy, mechanical/artwork review and pre-press approval and conduct detailed allergen review.Work directly with Marketing and Product Developers to create innovative claims that highlight product attributes and ensure claims are validated and substantiation is documented.Review all promotional/advertising material to provide perspective on the compliance of this material in Canada.Manage internal databases and maintain up-to-date product information for staff, customers and websites.Develop and maintain with cross-functional teams a system to communicate and track recipe document changes.Organize and maintain current files on all regulatory information related to ingredients, formulations, product claims, and label compliance with government regulations according to established company policies and procedures.

Ensure all master documents are controlled and secured in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).Perform label and signage reviews to ensure accuracy of information (e.G.

nutrition facts, ingredients list, claims) and to ensure correct usage of certification logos in accordance with federal and provincial regulations.Track quality metrics/performance data, identify trends, gaps and provide recommendations for improvement.May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basisSTATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Typically requires post-secondary degree in Quality Assurance, Regulatory, Food/Nutrition Science or Food Engineering along with 3-5 years’ experience with HACCP, GFSI, food legislation, Quality Assurance programs including process controls, training and supplier management; in a food production environment or equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.Understanding of food qualities, nutritional content, interactions and processing methods.Established knowledge of Canadian government regulations on ingredient, claims and nutritional labelling: up-to-date and respond to initiatives to comply with current and upcoming regulatory changes within Health Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, other regulatory agencies as required.Knowledge and proficiency with Food Formulation Software program and Microsoft Office.Capable of communicating effectively at different levels in the organization and cross functional stakeholders.Positive attitude with a desire to learn and collaborate.Detail oriented with strong organizational and planning skills.Teamplayer, collaborative, with a strong customer service mindset.Exceptional time management and organizational skills, self-starter with a high level of detail, initiative andadaptability.Accommodation is available upon request for applicants and employees with disabilities.
