Join us Job Summary The Environmental Officer is responsible for coordinating environmental activities and inspections, and addressing environmental compliance issues within the Prairie Region.

As a critical role, the incumbent acts as the environmental emergency responder for CN in the Region.

The Environmental Officer has an overall commitment to environmental compliance, while working in conjunction with the function and external departments.

Main Responsibilities Environmental Impact
· Ensure environmental compliance with respect to wastewater discharge, tank management, solid and hazardous waste management, environmental equipment operations, railroad activities, contaminated site management, permitting, air emission and spill response
· Coordinate and provide environmental emergency response for the Prairie Region
· Act as liaison with regulatory agencies, local government, First Nations and community stakeholders Budgeting and Inspections
· Manage Environmental Operating, Capital, and Provision budgets
· Manage contractors working for CN’s Environment Department
· Conduct yard inspections and support CN’s Environmental Audit Program Internal Relations
· Provide environmental awareness training to other CN departments
· Address complaints related to the environment and provide technical support to other CN departments Initiative Support
· Support headquarters (HQ) with its policy development, sustainability and waste management initiatives Working Conditions The Environmental Officer has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday.

The position may require periodic work during evenings or weekends based on priorities and deadlines.

The role is partially performed outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions.

The role requires frequent travel within Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northwest Ontario without advanced notice, including responding to unexpected emergencies, incidents and derailments.

Requirements Experience Relevant Work Experience
· Between 3 to 7 years of relevant work experience o Experience with emergency response or spill response o Project management o Management of professional consultants o Contaminated sites management o Operating and Capital budget forecasting, planning and management o Railway-related experience Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset E ducation/Certification/Designation
· Bachelor’s Degree in Science, or equivalent
· Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering Degree Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset Competencies
· Knows the business and stays current with industry trends to elevate expertise and work
· Improves processes on a continuous basis to enhance safety, security and to reduce CN’s environmental footprint
· Identifies risks and anticipates impacts to ensure a safe and secure environment
· Makes informed and timely decisions to get things done
· Inspires others with impactful communications and adapts to the audience
· Time and project management
· Deals with pressure and change by staying calm to quickly adapt
· Collaborates with key internal stakeholders to enable higher productivity
· Ability to work alone in remote locations without supervision Technical Skills/Knowledge
· Management knowledge of contaminated sites and wastes
· Understanding of environmental regulations
