Purpose The Energy Management System (EMS) Engineer is a key member of a 24/7 mission critical operations team responsible for providing the technical support & analytical services for the management, design, specification, configuration, troubleshooting, and support of systems and processes used to operate the Avangrid Renewable Generation Balancing Authority (BA).

The EMS Engineer supports the Avangrid National Control Center by designing and maintaining key real-time applications that are required for Avangrid BA functions, such as RTGEN (AGC), SCADA, SMP, OAG, State Estimation (SE), Real-Time Contingency Analysis (RTCA).

This includes all tertiary systems involved such as PDS (Program Development Environment), Modeling systems, and testing and staging environments.

The EMS Engineer, in line with Avangrid’s existing policies and procedures, will be responsible for developing/enhancing and/or overseeing all appropriate EMS change control, Quality Assurance, and documentary process and procedures.

The EMS Engineer position requires power systems analysis knowledge and system operations support experience, skills in problem solving, effective communication and teamwork within Avangrid’s challenging and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities Design, deploy, manage and maintain the necessary EMS systems and architecture to support the Company’s current and future business goals with the goal of reliable and independent operation of these environments with no outside help.

Assist in establishment and management of an EMS Cyber Security Program & Incident Response program, pertaining to the Avangrid’s BA(GE) applications, including written polices and associated OT procedures, standards, regulations and guidelines.

Establish, manage and monitor any BA related code and configuration change control and change management environments and processes.

As determined by senior management, procure, deploy and support the company’s GE/ALSTOM EMS (Energy Management System) systems containing AGC (Automatic Generation Control) applications and associated OT infrastructures, including vendor relationships Act as the company’s representative to appropriate technology forums and industry work groups Support other lines of business as needed and assigned Consistently demonstrate extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish the Company’s goals with a high degree of creativity.

Regulatory Responsibilities Provide input and guidance to the CIPS and Reliability Standards compliance program as needed.

Engage appropriate Federal, State and Regional entities and organizations as needed.

Monitor and provide on-going recommendations regarding the Company’s participation in control systems technologies, business strategy and optimization of asset pool, and other components of company’s initiatives, which are applicable to the Company’s business and when determined by the Company and assist in the management of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Standards compliance program for the EMS systems.

Skills and Requirements Knowledge of GE (Alstom) Energy Management System (e-terrageneration, e-terracomm, e-terracontrol, e-terrascada, e-terrahabitat, e-terrasource, e-terrabrowser) Experience managing and configuring communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP, OPC, ICCP, TCP/IP, EIDE, ISD.

Experience in Power Systems Engineering Understanding of NERC / CIP standards.

Ability to adhere to NERC standards including successful 7 year background investigation and security review.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with management, Plant Operations, and technical personnel.

Computer programming (C++/C#) High energy and ability to work with little to no direct supervision Preference may be given to candidates with the following expertise: Experience in Balancing Authority (BA) operations.

Process control and Energy Management Systems Power Plant Control Systems Knowledge of OATI’s webAccounting and webTrans.

RTU communications and substation systems Background in Wind Energy.
