WHO WE ARE

MMBC is the economic development organization of the three Mi’gmaq communities of Gaspésie responsible for the identification and development of sustainable business opportunities that will enable and support empowered Mi’gmaq. Your primary concern will be creating and enabling a clear and open dialogue between communities, partners, and shareholders by developing and implementing an effective communication plan.

To achieve our goals and mission, we are looking for an innovative Communications and Public Relations Officer to be a leader and spokesperson as the face of the MMBC.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

With a University Degree or combination of a College Diploma and related work experience in Public Relation, Communication, Journalism or Marketing, you also have a minimum of three years of communication or public relations experience. An innovative thinker with an eye towards evolution and growth, you are a solution-oriented person with a high level of initiative and judgment. Furthermore, with your deep understanding of marketing, communication, and business principles, including a deep awareness and knowledge of Mi’gmaq communities, culture, and traditions, you can be flexible and adapt to a variety of personalities and leadership styles. Finally, you are a tech-savvy and media-oriented person who is not only fluently bilingual (oral and written skills), but also willing to learn the Mi’gmaq language (if it is not already an asset).

REASONS TO JOIN THE TEAM

  • You get to work in close contact with Mi’gmaq communities, learning more about their social, cultural, and governance traditions.
  • A competitive salary and benefits package, including competitive benefits and pension.
  • Being part of a team that makes a real difference in its communities.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

You will make significant differences by navigating four sectors of duties and their subsequent responsibilities:

Development and implementation of an effective communication plan

While you consult and engage on a regular basis with the three-member communities, the band councils, the Board of Directors, and the MMBC, you will learn the various communication and leadership styles to which you will need to adapt. As you actively participate in the development and implementation of an effective communication plan, you will grow, adapt, and evaluate as needed, all while respecting the MMBC goals and strategies.

Creation and sharing of clear and efficient internal and external communications

In order to be as clear and concise as possible in your internal and external communications, you will gather all necessary information via the most appropriate means for the situation (ex: interviews, calls, journalistic research, etc.) as well as attend all required meetings or public events. You will maintain a database of all information gathered, including MMBC information and statistics, for reporting and tracking purposes. In addition to gathering information, it will be primordial to ensure coordination and communication of all necessary information (ex: events, activities, press releases, etc.) to both internal and external audiences. These communications will involve building relations with key media contacts to manage all media relations and requests, evaluating the efficiency and branding of all communications, and editing/proofreading all outgoing publications from MMBC.

Maintain and update all electronic communications, including media requests and social media platforms

As an Admin for the MMBC social media platforms, you will be responsible for responding to all online communications and engaging with users on sites such as Twitter and Facebook. You will use your creative skills to create content for these platforms and the organization’s website, as well as creating content development strategies and scheduling, all while maintaining professional online social etiquette.
