Staff embedded software engineer – diagnostics


This is a Full-time position in Ottawa, ON posted January 14, 2020.

Your Key Responsibilities Would Include:Job ResponsibilitiesAs a key member in embedded software development, you will develop creative solutions for hardware boot, bring-up, diagnostics, operation and testing.

Duties include software design, implementation, documentation, testing, porting, troubleshooting, integration and support.

You must be a highly independent engineer working with frequent interaction with hardware engineering, firmware engineering, software development and manufacturing test development peers.

Primary assignments include the following.Design, develop and test boot-code and board Power-On Self-Test device driversDesign, develop and test diagnostic software Design, develop and test HW driversResponsible for hardware bring-up test of hardware boards.

Job Requirements8+ years experience in embedded software development and solid skills in object-oriented, multi-threaded programming using C or C++ for embedded systems5+ years experience in embedded O/S boot code, board Power-on Self-Test (BPOST) and diagnostics software for communication platformsProfound knowledge of embedded Linux kernel internal, device drivers, U-Boot and its boot sequencesExperience with embedded RT OS such as QNX, and VxWorks development environment are desired.

Excellent design analysis skills, including experience with software modeling, hardware-software interactions.

Self-managed individual with excellent problem solving skillsGood English communications skills, both verbal and writingEducation and ExperienceExperience with the component devices used in network communication products, such as L2/L3 switches, GE/10GE PHYs, SOC, DDR-SDRAM, FPGA/CPLD, SerDes and FramersExperience with the formal and best practices for the software engineering process, including documentation, modeling, design, development and QATrack-record of developing the appropriate products on time and with required levels of quality and performanceExperience with complex ASIC and board bring-up, boot code, RTOS BSP, device driver and embedded software programming.Experience with debug and test tools such as JTAG, ICE, BDI2000/3000, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.Detailed knowledge about the communication buses and interfaces used in networking products, such as MDIO, I2C, SPI, PCIe, CAUI-4/10, SFI-4, SFI-5, …Detailed knowledge about networking and communication protocols, such as SONET/SDH, OTN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, …Minimum of 5 years industry experience as a embedded SW or FW developer, with at least 3 years of hands-on developing diagnostic or embedded software for network communication productsExperience with embedded RT OS such as QNX and/or VxWorks development environment are desired.
