Seeking a contractor for a three (3) month contract

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• You will audit and make recommendations and improvements on current environments, including all operational aspects of a client environment from application, infrastructure, network, and security. The solution is in the final phases of development – recommendations should be made in that context.
• Collaborate with development teams to review and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database design to improve performance and scalability.
• Apply various monitoring and profiling tools to diagnose and resolve performance issues, such as AWS CloudWatch, Amazon RDS Performance Insights, and PostgreSQL EXPLAIN.
• Work closely with project managers, solution architects and team members to ensure SRE projects are delivered accurately and within timeline & budget for clients.
• Support regular performance tests, load testing, and benchmarking to assess the impact of system changes and optimizations.
• Experience with a number of database platforms (Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, AWS Aurora)
• Update standard operating procedures to reflect updates in our best practices as part of our dedication to continual service improvement

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Shown experience as a Performance Specialist, Database Specialist, or similar role with a focus on AWS RDS PostgreSQL Database and SQL Tuning.
• Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Desired Qualifications

• Proficient with relational Rational Database Management System (RDBMS) and NoSQL concepts.
• Hands-on experience with AWS RDS PostgreSQL, including configuration, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in database performance profiling and diagnostic tools, such as pg_stat_statements, EXPLAIN, and performance monitoring tools.
• Solid understanding of database internals, query execution plans, and indexing strategies.
• Knowledge of AWS Cloud services and standard methodologies, particularly related to RDS and EC2.
• AWS Certified Database – Specialty or related certifications.
• Experience with other database technologies, such as MySQL, Oracle, or NoSQL databases.
Cloud Technologies (e.g. Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, RedHat, OpenStack)
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and their impact on database performance.
