Lumentum is seeking to hire an Automation Software Engineer for our Ottawa based team.

What will you do in this role?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative software engineer to join our team, developing automation frameworks, test solutions, and desktop applications for a broad range of products in the Optical Communications portfolio, including next generation WSS and OCM modules, ROADMs, SDN Whiteboxes and Grayboxes.

You will contribute to our success by: Designing and implementing software tools and applications for Windows;Implementing complex calibration processes and test solutions in software, to bring leading-edge optical telecommunication products from initial design stage to volume manufacturing;Automating tools and dashboards to visualize and analyse large volumes of data to improve product performance and quality;Solving complex technical problems;Working in close collaboration with the Optical, Hardware, Software and Firmware R&D teams;Delivering robust, well-documented, scalable software.

What experience will allow you the greatest success in this role?

An undergraduate degree, Masters or PhD in the following disciplines: Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field;Proven object-oriented programming experience, preferably in VB.NET, C#, Python, or R;Experience with querying and analyzing Big Data, including any of the following: Apache Hive, Hadoop, SQL, Tableau, JMP, Machine Learning, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, XML;Strong analytical, troubleshooting and debugging skills;Tools for Agile software development (e.g.

Jira), source control (SVN, Git), and peer code review;Strong communication skills and the ability to drive solutions through cross-functional teams in a deadline-driven environment;Experience in any of the following is an asset: Knowledge of optical components and systems;Hands-on experience with electrical and optical test and measurement equipment;Device test automation, data gathering and statistical analysis;Six-Sigma techniques, e.g., design for manufacturability/reliability (DFx), SPC, GR&R;Interaction with Manufacturing teams, in either a primary or support role.
