Job Description Job Title: Family and Child Therapist Work Site: Mental Health Child and Adolescent Program, Richmond Child Mental Health Team
– Richmond, BC Status: Temporary Part Time (0.80 FTE) Start Date: As soon as possible until approximately July 2022 Salary: $35.65
– $44.56 per hour Hours: 0830-1645 Days off: Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and statutory holidays Reference: 143619-atr Come work as a Family and Child Therapist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Family and Child Therapist to join the Richmond Child Mental Health Team in Richmond, BC.

Apply today to join our team As a Family and Child Therapist with VCH you will: Work as part of a multidisciplinary community team, to provide culturally appropriate individual, family and group counseling for children with multicultural backgrounds who display behavioural and emotional problems.

Perform intake evaluations and assessments; develop culturally sensitive treatment and case management plans and participate in the collaborative process of developing and adjusting treatment plans and initiate and participate in case conferences/meetings with clients and family.

Provide information to multicultural families and the general public, consult with other health providers, and collaborate with colleagues and liaises with schools, Ministry of Children and Family Development, physicians, community agencies, hospitals, and other service providers.

Participate in committees, community initiatives, team meetings, continuing education and engage in on going team planning and quality improvement initiatives.

ABOUT THE MENTAL HEALTH CHILD & ADOLESCENT PROGRAM The program provides assessment and treatment for children and youth 6 to 12 years of age, and their families, who are affected by serious mental health concerns.

Services include crisis response and suicide risk assessment interdisciplinary case management, school outreach, and counselling.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience Master’s degree in a behavioral science from a recognized program.

Three (3) years recent, related experience working with children or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Eligibility for registration with appropriate Professional Association.

Valid BC Drivers License.

Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.

Knowledge & Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of behavioural, social emotional and mental health/psychiatric problems in children and youth.

Broad knowledge of child developmental theory.

Broad knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counselling skills.

Broad knowledge of psychoeducation principles and methods.

Broad knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects).

Broad knowledge of community resources.

Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.

Broad knowledge of school, legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to client.

Demonstrated ability to work with children with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health/psychiatric issues.

Demonstrated ability to perform psychosocial assessments and provide treatment planning and care.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, physicians, school counselors, clients and their families, students, and other service providers in health and social services, both one-on-one and in groups.

Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting.

Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.

Demonstrated ability to problem solve.

Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.

Demonstrated ability to communicate with individuals with diverse backgrounds and exhibits a cross-cultural competency.

Ability to operate related equipment.

Ability to work with a diverse population in a culturally sensitive lens.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
