DevOps Engineer – full-time (Markham)

– full-time (Markham) Reporting to the DevOps Lead, the DevOps Engineer is responsible for supporting our cloud and on premise infrastructure.

This position will also work closely with our IT teams across the company to deploy, and maintain a highly available environment.

The DevOps Engineer will work in a complex, fast-paced environment with a focus on ensuring a high level of system stability.

The DevOps Engineer will work directly with development team members to provide highly available and high performing services .

The qualified candidate will work with agile teams of software engineers and must thrive in a high-energy environment with complex multi-disciplinary projects.

The DevOps Engineer will develop a strong understanding of Opta internal processes, business needs and strategic direction.

This will include building strong working relationships with internal and external team members.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

As a DevOps Engineer at Opta, we would be looking to you to both design and develop scalable infrastructure , keeping a strong focus on performance, reliability, health, security, and scalability, while bridging important communication gaps to enable us to ship faster, and better.

Key Responsibilities: Design, implement and deploy complex Kubernetes and AWS-based workloads from initial architecture and design through development, testing, and deployment Implement, maintain, and improve application/system monitoring to help identify key performance metrics Drive visibility and continuous improvement of our delivery pipelines Design, document, and build systems to automate away operational problems Perform system administration tasks, such as configuration management, creating and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates and supporting tools Write scripts and automation using Python/Bash/Perl/etc Incident support (identification, notification, remediation, reporting).

Participate in the on-call rotation Assist development teams diagnose infrastructure related issues Skills Required: A strong desire to automate everything, including processes and infrastructure Working experience building, configuring and deploying applications to Kubernetes and AWS Proficiency on the command line with a good knowledge of various Linux utilities for debugging and automation purposes Strong sense for developing with modern architecture principles (e.g.

Infrastructure as Code, Immutable/Disposable/Replaceable Infrastructure, Automate-all-the-things) Experience with relational and non-relational databases (MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MSSQL) Solid understanding of information/cloud security best practices Experience installing and configuring various monitoring solutions Hands-on experience providing support to Developers, i.e.

troubleshooting failed builds, troubleshooting dev/qa/prod issues Ability to participate both onsite and virtual support teams Solid understanding of AWS and its key features (More than just lunching a few EC2 instances) Familiarity with monitoring tools such as DataDog, Grafana, Cloud Watch, Zabbix, Datadog, etc.

Experience using CI/CD automation servers like Jenkins, Practical experience with source/revision control tools like GIT, SVN Ability to create and maintain technical documentation and diagrams Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies Strong problem solving skills Ability to manage parallel work streams Good verbal and written communication skills Education, Knowledge and Experience Required: Formalized education in Computer Science or another Information Technology based program Experience supporting large external facing environments Strong practical Linux System administration skills.

Automation experience using current tools such as Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, Salt Very strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, Go, etc.) Prior success with automated build scripts used for multi environment release management Prior experience in establishing code deployment and promotion processes Experience in managing highly automated infrastructures 3 year of experience working in a 24/7, multi-tier, service-provider technical support team SCM Insurance Services and affiliates welcome and encourage applications from people with disabilities.
