Canadian North: Payroll Specialist

This is a Full-time position in Ottawa, ON posted July 18, 2021.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesInterested candidates should be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities:Process complex bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly unionized and non-union payrollsResponsible for time sheet audit, verifying, balancing, adjusting entries from the electronic Time & Attendance system for the importsLiaise with all managers and employees to assist with Time & AttendanceResponsible for the maintenance of vacation, sick, family and time banksRequired to be payroll compliant with all aspects of the collective agreements, HR Manuals and CLC for GAFAE, CALDA, UNIFOR, ALPA, CUPE & Non-Bargaining groupsAssist with the balancing of payroll codes to the backup on a per pay basisResponsible for the calculations and preparation of manual cheques and EFT payments to outside vendorsResponsible for Terminations/Leaves-ROE’sResponsible for entry of all New Hires, Changes, Increases, retro calculations, Personal Information, employee benefits into the HRIS systemResponsible for the calculation and preparation of Company portion RRSPs, union dues, cash link, garnishees, Rent and Home/AutoResponsible for Report on Hirings to Service Canada monthly for complianceMonthly Stats Canada reports for different locations as requestedResponsible for the preparation of all payroll journal entriesResponsible for the analysis of all payroll clearing accounts on a monthly basisAssist with year-end as requiredOther duties as assigned.Skills and QualificationsInclude, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:Post Secondary Education (3 years) with payroll specialtyFour (4) years payroll experience in a unionized environmentEnrolled or completed Canadian Payroll Association Certificate Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP)Strong computer skills required – adept with Word and Access, advanced Excel skillsExperience with payroll software; Ultimate Software an assetDemonstrated ability to independently identify and research problemsStrong analytical and organizational skillsAdept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced, team-oriented environment while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality and effective time managementAbility to work with minimal supervision and ability to prioritize without guidanceProven customer service skills with a strong customer focusExcellent communication skills verbal and writtenAbility to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset; Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
