Robotics Technologist (located in New Brunswick)

THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client, CCNB-INNOV – Bathurst is seeking a dynamic experienced candidate to fill the position of ROBOTICS TECHNOLIGIST for its Advanced Manufacturing/Welding Centre.

The candidate will be part of a growing multi-disciplinary team (electrical, mechanical, metallurgy and welding engineers; instrumentation technologist; toolmaker; manufacturing technicians) that provides applied research and industrial services to SMEs.

Located at the CCNB – Bathurst, New Brunswick Campus, this research division values the multiple expertise of its team. They specialize in mechanical prototyping and in the development of mechanical processes or in advanced assembly technologies processes incorporating. The team can undertake research projects and industrial services of varying nature: some will require only a few hours of work while others, funded mainly by grants for research assistance, will take several months or even several years. The team strives to support the technological development of New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada’s metals industry by providing services to:

  • Mechanical process development
  • Prototyping and validation of concepts
  • Technology integration projects
  • Development of assembly processes

The candidate will report directly to the manager of the Advanced Manufacturing/Welding Centre and will be an active member of a growing team promoting the emergence of advanced manufacturing/welding practices and technologies within companies of New Brunswick and the Atlantic region.

The candidate will be responsible for automation, control, electrical and instrumentation system design, programming, simulation, specification and testing, and start-up assistance in the field of prototyping. The candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment in engineering leadership with an ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices and provide detailed documentation on project completion.

The candidate will develop a thorough understanding of the organization’s business process and will work closely with colleagues across a number of functions, including operations, purchasing and design.

The work includes:

  1. Works with one or more internal or external suppliers to improve production efficiency, reduce process variability, and ensure respect of the approved methods of quality standards by exercising discretion and independent judgment in assessing possible behaviors
  2. Conduct and support projects defined by the center’s robotic team
  3. Look for parts for assembly components and update list of available materials;
  4. Help set new standards and maintain existing standards;
  5. Operate, prepare and program industrial and collaborative robots;
  6. Plan and carry out the maintenance of laboratory robotic cells and offer technical support to our customers;
  7. Identify and participate in technology transfer activities with businesses;
  8. Assist the customers in the realization of their projects including the electrical commissioning and configure the equipment according to the specifications of the application;
  9. Participate in the organization of the department seminars and symposia
  10. Troubleshoot existing systems installed by the company;
  11. collaborate with Business Development Officers in the preparation of quotes
  12. Provide advice and support,
  13. Help in the training and familiarization of the developed product for the client’s employees,
  14. Other related tasks.

What to expect:

  1. The work may be based in an office, laboratory or factory, depending on the nature of the organization of the client project;
  2. Visiting clients and working on-site is a common aspect of the work;
  3. The position may carry a high level of responsibility and may be stressful, especially when responsibilities are directly under the control of the quality control engineer and where accountability lies directly with the quality control engineer with tight deadlines and within budget;
  4. Could be required to work evenings according to the needs of entrepreneurs and be willing to travel within the province, in other parts of the country and sometimes abroad;
  5. Knowledge of written and spoken English and French is required. Work environment is in French but most clients are in an English environment.

The candidate must have knowledge/EXPERIENCE IN or with:

 

  1. Programming of Fanuc, Kuka, ABB, and Universal Robot
  2. Esprit, MasterCam, RobotMaster, RobotStudio softwares;
  3. Reading plans and functional rating;
  4. The Canadian Electrical Code and safety regulations such as electrical maintenance and arc flash protection;
  5. Drafting software such as Autocad and Solid Works-Electrical is an asset;
  6. Ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and quality standards.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Hold one or a combination of the following

  • College diploma in industrial electronics technology;
  • A technical engineering diploma;
  • A diploma in electromechanical engineering;
  • An attestation of College Studies (ACS) in robotics;
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, automated production engineering;
  • Any other combination of training with relevant experience in robotics and automation

 

An equivalent combination of training and work experience could be considered.  Applicants must state such clearly in their résumé and, if they are invited to an interview, they will have to support this equivalence by providing their credentials to the selection committee.

 

Overall, the ideal candidate must possess superior leadership and interpersonal skills to work in a rapidly changing work environment, as well as good writing and communication skills.  He/she must be autonomous, productive, and willing to meet challenges related to establishing a structure dedicated to meeting applied research and industrial services needs required by the industry.  He/she must be able to work under pressure, with tight deadlines and prioritization, and still pay attention to details.  He/she must also have a good record of performance and attendance.
