For more information, follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn or visit Telesat has an immediate requirement for an Intermediate RF Systems Engineering Associate to join the Infrastructure Engineering team.

The RF Systems Engineering Associate will work in a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of highly skilled professionals to support both Geostationary and Low Earth Orbit Constellation (Telesat Lightspeed) initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager of the Infrastructure Engineering Team, the successful candidate will provide systems engineering system level design expertise, participate in antenna system installations, validation, acceptance testing, troubleshooting and work directly with Telesat sales group and customers.

Main Responsibilties Propose solutions, RF system designs, M&C system integration and provide cost estimates based on customer requirements Review customer project requirements, prepare and present proposals to customers for both Geostationary and Telesat Lightspeed systems Attend and actively participate in customer and/or internal technical meetings Work directly with prospective customers’ technical personnel to validate system requirements and interrupt their needs to find viable solutions for both Geostationary and Telesat Lightspeed systems Work directly with customers to plan upgrades, review performance of networks and resolve service issues for both Geostationary and Telesat Lightspeed systems Write technical specifications and scope of work documents for antenna and RF equipment vendors to provide quotations Review supplier quotations for technical accuracy and fair pricing.

Work with procurement team members to negotiate discounts Support internal stakeholders and provide support to implement solutions sold to customers for both Geostationary and Telesat Lightspeed systems Identify new solutions within Telesat’s business model which could lead to new revenue opportunities with customers for both Geostationary and Telesat Lightspeed systems Travel to various customer and Telesat owned facilities to implement, test, validate and troubleshoot antenna RF systems for both Geostationary and Telesat Lightspeed systems Provide work instruction and training to teleport staff and field support representatives Education & Experience Required 5 years experience in a related capacity Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science with an emphasis on Telecommunications.

College Degree
– Electronics and Electrical Engineering technologist with a focus on Telecommunications and relevant work experience will also be considered.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Design and implementation of services based on VSAT systems (Advantech, Comtech, Newtec, iDirect and DVB platforms) Antenna and RF systems end to end design, implementation, operation and diagnostics, including components such as frequency convertors, high power transmitters, waveguide combiners and receive systems Experience in optimizing RF performance in an RF uplink, receive chain and over a satellite link in both single and multicarrier modes of operation Link budget analysis and software tools, recognized in the satellite industry (Optimal Satcom, Satmaster, LST5) TCP/IP networking geared towards Telco services such as MPLS and Layer-2 Ethernet connectivity solutions to complete end to end customer requirements (CCIE, NRS II or equivalent knowledge) would be considered a strong asset Protocol acceleration, web caching, traffic management, firewalls, VPN and security related hardware and software would be beneficial Knowledge of 4G/5G mobile backhaul, microwave technologies, triple play networking designs and network management platforms would be considered an asset MEF standards and implementations would be beneficial Demonstrated project management skills Strong technical, presentation, interpersonal, written and oral communications skills Strong ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment Experience working in high pressure situations, under short timeframes Proven ability to lead and manage contractors while in the field and working remotely Experience and knowledge implementing, configuring and programming for M&C systems such as Kratos Proven track record working and managing sub-contractors in the field Experience working with tracking antenna systems would be considered a great asset Equipment Used Microsoft Office suite of software Radiation Meter Power meter Copper and fibre optic cable testing equipment Various crimping tools General hand tools and power tools Some heavy lifting may be required Working at heights Decision Making & Supervision Develop and recommend solutions for advanced satellite network solutions Work through technical issues in the field and make sound decisions to minimize cost impacts and yet maintaining schedules No direct reporting staff but the position is expected to lead multi-disciplinary project team’s and provide technical guidance and keep management team up to date Working Conditions Working conditions are typical office environment, with some ability to work from home.

National and international travel is anticipated, sometimes working in remote locations, outdoor work in extreme weather conditions.
