SERV Technician – Shop Lead


This is a Full-time position in Ottawa, ON posted November 8, 2018.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (May include some or all of the following. Other duties may be assigned)


  • Assist in directing work of helpers or on the job trainees and provide instructions as required;
  • Act as the shop technical resource person for an assigned group of technicians;
  • Recondition and repair all engines, transmission, tractors and industrial equipment as assigned;
  • Diagnose trouble, plan methods and sequence of performing work required;
  • Keep records required to establish cost of parts and service charges to the customer;
  • Handle customer problems both objectively and tactfully;
  • Maintenance and care of shop tools, equipment, and vehicles if required;
  • Maintain a clean work area and perform miscellaneous duties associated with the job;
  • Lead by example by setting the standard of excellence for technical workmanship;
  • workplace safety, shop cleanliness, work-order preparation, organization and morale;
  • Review work-orders daily with assigned technicians for accuracy and completeness;
  • Fill in for the Service Supervisor/Manager during busy periods, meetings, vacations, customer visits or any other time the Service Supervisor/Manager is absent;
  • Support the day-to-day activity of scheduling;
  • Follow up on work to completion as well as ensuring service commitment is followed;
  • Provide technical expertise on shop floor;
  • Perform regular mechanical duties assigned;
  • Instruct an assigned group of technicians in their duties.   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum Skills and Experience:

Health and Safety

  • Heavy Equipment Technician certification;
  • Knowledge of Dealer Technical Assistance (DTAC) in order to resolve technical issues and computer literacy will be considered an asset;
  • A team player with the ability to communicate with personnel and customers when required;
  • Interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Must be self-motivated.


Physical Demands


  • Ability to stand/walk for 8 hours
  • Able to lift 25 kilos to 50 lbs unassisted and carry as required
  • Ability to lift above shoulder and from floor to shoulder and floor to waist
  • Ability to walk and carry at same time & push/pull as required
  • Able to twist, turn, reach and work above shoulder level
