This is a Full-time position in Ottawa, ON posted July 25, 2018.

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supra municipal body with jurisdiction over the territory located north of the 55th parallel, is now looking for a self-motivated and dynamic individual interested in joining the KRG to work in the capacity of:


ELECTRICIAN en rotation


Reporting to the Coordinator of the Transportation Department and working closely with the Assistant Director, the electrician’s responsibilities include:


  • Carry out maintenance on all electrical wiring systems and devices, including airport-related facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring systems and devices.
  • Refurbish existing facilities or extend their operational lifespan by installing new electrical devices.
  • Verify malfunctioning equipment with testing devices, including ammeters and voltmeters.
  • Inspect electrical equipment including motors, generators and circuit breakers for faults, as well as locate breakdowns and identify causes.
  • Install power and control cables.
  • Analyse, locate and resolve breakdowns with programmable controllers.
  • Repair and replace electrical, mechanical, air-powered and hydraulic parts.
  • Update existing drawings.
  • Participate in the start-up and implementation of electrical and mechanical projects.
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of the preventive maintenance program and keep appropriate records.
  • Inform his/her coordinator of all faults and equipment breakdowns, and make recommendations.
  • Comply with safety rules.
  • Plan work flow and comply with deadlines.
  • Perform general building maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform any other duty or other related task requested by his/her supervisor.
  • Advise Transportation Department staff on various subjects related to electricity.
  • Take operational decisions in emergency situations.



Place of work: Kuujjuaq (and the other 13 northern villages)

Salary: Minimum $39 728 /year; maximum $67 565 /year (Class 8)

Benefits*: Per diem; 455$ per week

Simplified Pension Plan: 6% employer, 4% employee

  • Thorough knowledge of electricity and electronics theories, principles and practices as applied in industrial and commercial settings.
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices and usage of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, cable fault locators, voltmeters and ammeters.
  • Knowledge of alternating and direct current (AC and DC).
  • Knowledge of theories and principles of electrical production of emergency power by diesel generator.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety principles.


The selected candidate must:

  • Possess a pertinent vocational or college studies diploma. 
  • Sound work experience will also be taken into account.Have a valid electrician’s license (class C) and a valid Québec driver’s license (class 5).
  • Be able to communicate orally and in writing in at least two of the following languages: English, French or Inuktitut. (A working knowledge of Inuktitut is preferred.)
  • Be prepared to travel throughout Nunavik.
  • Work experience north of the 55th parallel is a definite asset.
