The Opportunity This is a rare opportunity for a motivated, detail-oriented candidate with a strong background in accounting and an interest in real estate who is seeking a challenging position with future growth potential in a dynamic, cohesive office environment.The role is to provide competent accounting and analytical support to a boutique real estate investment firm with a growing portfolio in innovative over-55 lifestyle residences in several Canadian provinces.

The successful candidate will possess a natural inclination to work within a defined process while helping to grow the business by adding value to every business transaction.

The upscale, private offices are located in a unique stone building in the West End of the city.

Your New Role We are seeking a pro-active and customer service-oriented candidate with strong communication and advanced computer literacy to play a key role in the accounting process of an independent office that offers a busy working environment where there is a combination of standard cyclical tasks, monthly and year end reporting and challenging projects and opportunities for professional growth.

Key accounting functions are as follows: Ensure that all month-end accounting duties and resulting financial reporting is completed in a timely and accurate mannerRecord operational and corporate accounting transactions, process accruals and adjustments, reconcile accounts, and prepare monthly statements/reports.Analyze HST accounts and prepare monthly entries and schedules for submission to CRA.Review and monitor cash balances in all companies to ensure the required allocation is maintained.Prepare operational budgets in conjunction with the General Managers of each residence, VP of Operations and CFO.Measure and research operational actual to budget variances and provide analysis to explain.All aspects of accounting, AR and AP for one corporate entity.Coordinate monthly balance sheet review meetings with accounting team.Maintain year-end working papers and spreadsheets and assist with preparation for yearend external accounting engagement and external audits being conducted.Coordinate year end external accounting engagement.

Keys to SuccessTo be considered for this key position you must have at least 3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience and advanced standing in a professional accounting program.

The ideal candidate will also have proven competence in accounting or finance, ideally in a real estate related environment and a strong grasp on accepted accounting practices, reporting requirements, internal controls and accounting systems.Post-secondary education in accounting, business, finance (or a related field) as well as a demonstrated strength in analyzing and presenting numerical tables, spreadsheets and forms is essential.

Experience with YARDI would be ideal and will be highly favoured.

Always acting in a highly ethical, professional and customer-oriented manner, you must have excellent written and oral English communication and interpersonal skills, You can work both independently and take direction as part of a closely-knit team and be able to multi-task with minimal supervision.
