Junior Transportation/Bridges Design Technician – Ottawa, ON


This is a Contract position in Ottawa region, ON posted August 2, 2017.

CH2M is searching for a CAD Technician/Technologist to join our growing Ottawa Transportation Practice.

This individual will be focused on the delivery of transit, pedestrian, and roadway bridge projects and programs for CH2M’s clients across Ontario. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting senior technologists in the delivery of a roster of projects, working with design and production teams located in multiple offices. The ideal candidate will be a technician with 3 years of experience who is a highly motivated individual will to participate a wide variety of technical duties.

· Prepare plans, sections, details and schematic drawings following the required CAD standards on a variety of transportation and bridge assignments.

· Prepare presentation graphics and report figures.

· Work closely with project lead design engineers and lead design technician/technologists to help deliver quality project deliverables.

· Participate in and document existing condition site reviews.

· Participate in local bridge condition assessments and bridge inspections.

· Perform occasional site inspections during construction.

· Providing quantity take-offs.

· Ensuring that the projects’ needs are met and work is delivered in a timely and effective manner.

· Strong technical skills related to CAD standards and automation.

· Other related duties as required

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

· Diploma from a Technician or Technologist program in Civil or Transportation Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

· Minimum 3 years’ experience is desired.

· Ministry of Transportation Project experience an asset.

· City of Ottawa and other Ontario municipality experience is an asset.

· Design Build experience an asset.

· Bridge inspection and/or condition survey an asset.

· Experience in detailing structural steel and concrete drawings an asset.

· Experience with AutoCAD is a requirement.

· Experience with Microstation, InRoads and Civil 3D is an asset.

· Ability to work on several projects at a time with multiple design teams.

· Strong communication skills.

· Excellent technical, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
