Waste Connections of Canada (formally Progressive Waste Solutions) the leader in non-hazardous solid waste management in North America is looking for a Full Time Equipment (Loader) Operator to work in our waste processing facility in Ottawa.

 

Reporting to the Site Lead Hand, the Loader Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Loader. This position operates loaders equipped with front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop which is used to transport waste or other materials, feed hoppers or chutes, and/or stock pile waste.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Operate the Loader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Understand and follow directions from supervisors as to required work area.
  • Operate Loader controls to lower and tilt bucket and drive forward to force bucket into bulk material; Move lever to raise and tilt bucket when filled, or to dump material.
  • Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
  • Operate Loader on private Site, maintaining proper awareness of ones surroundings.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the Loader.
  • Operate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required.
  • Comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics. 

Qualifications

  • Class G Driver’s License
  • Successful completion of practical examination to measure skill and ability
  • Previous experience with Loaders, Excavators, Forklifts and Skid steers
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years’ experience within the Waste industry
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  • Available and willing to work from 9 am to 18:30 am and be flexible to adapt to business needs.
  • Available and willing to work weekends and holidays occasionally.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to work long hours outside in the conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
