Regional Manager, Laboratory Operations

Position Information

The Regional Manager, Laboratory Operations provides leadership, direction and operational oversight to the laboratory sites within a defined region established by EORLA, which typically comprises 3 – 9 laboratory sites managed by site managers. The role is responsible for providing leadership in establishing and implementing operational strategies and practices in support of effective and efficient service delivery across the region, while ensuring EORLA’s mandate, regional objectives and priorities; ongoing regulatory and compliance requirements; and the development and implementation of strategies, initiatives and mechanisms to advance continuous improvement and innovation.

 

In doing so, the Regional Manager, Laboratory Operations works to increase EORLA’s impact within the region – both by fostering efficient, consistent and high quality service delivery across the region and by working in close collaboration with regionally-based stake holders to enhance ongoing service delivery; patient care and safety; consistency of service and related longer term service delivery and planning requirements.

Rotation/Shifts

Basic Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Health Administration or Business Administration (or equivalent) or previous senior level management training;
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of EORLA’s vision, mission, values and mandate, and how these are operationalized at the regional level and in the context of managing a variety of laboratory operations;
  • An in-depth understanding of the provision of laboratory services in the context of EORLA’s service delivery model, and experience in healthcare administration, laboratory medicine, or an appropriate combination thereof, in order to provide leadership and direction and execute on the organization’s strategic objectives and priorities at the regional level;
  • Specific and demonstrated experience in more senior leadership roles, human resources management, financial management, project and time management;
  • A sound understanding of strategic planning practices, with an emphasis on the development and implementation of change management initiatives, innovation, and continuous improvement;
  • A sound knowledge of relevant accreditation standards, hospital practices and procedures as they pertain to the provision of laboratory medicine, standards of practice and relevant regulations;
  • Ability to build and sustain alliance and relationship with internal and external stakeholders and partners in order to promote, position, and advance EORLA’s objectives, priorities and strategic initiatives at the regional level;
  • Ability to assess a changing and considerably complex environment in order to identify emerging trends, issues and opportunities, and to link these conceptually and practically for the purpose of advancing and enabling the region’s service delivery model;
  • Ability to keep apprised of issues, trends and best practice initiatives as they pertain to quality, risk management and the effective delivery of laboratory medicine in order to respond effectively to a changing environment;
  • A sound knowledge of managerial practices and principles in order to effectively manage the human and financial resources of the region with due diligence, maintain efficient use of resources, and to set a work climate that is positive, aligned with the values of the organization, and which supports the development of employees.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in hospital, clinical, or research lab administration;
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset.
